"The International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) announced yesterday that the 2007 cocoa crop would produce a global cocoa surplus of 80,000 tons, up from previous estimates of a 5,000-ton deficit.The trade organization said favorable weather conditions in cocoa-producing regions of the world accounts for the bumper crop, which is being considered a record. So what were your favorite candies when you were little and Halloween came around. I loved the little Reese's Miniatures as well as the small square shape Snickers candies. I wasn't too fond of Tootsie Rolls or the candy corn. I think the best part was when me and my friends would sit down the next day and see what everyone had and trade some of the candy we had. Someone might lke something I didn't like and vice versa so we would trade. Good times.

So is there such a thing as healthy chocolate? For all you chocolate addicts out there, there is good news. Some of you may know that there has been ongoing research to see if chocolate is healthy for you or not. Recent studies have found out that chocolate can be healthy in moderation, not in overloaded doses at a time. It has been proven that the chocolate you eat every week can become "healthy chocolate" and actually improve the condition of your heart. Out of alll the chocolate varieties out there, dark chocolae has been proven to help fight heart disease. But don't go crazy. This doesn't mean eat 10 Hershey's bars everyday, but you don't have to feel guilty about indulging yourself in your chocolate treats every week. Hmm...this is an interesting article about how the chocolate market has become so much more competitive than it has in the past. I agree. In the past you had companies with basically 1-3 products in their lines, nowadays, every company has tons of products in their lines. Take Hershey's for example. They own Reese's and their own classic chocolate bars have an extended line. Just off the top of my head, Reese's has peanut butter cups which have even more product variations. The classic Hershey's also has, almonds, kisses, symphony. It's really too much to count. Just about every month, it seems that a new product line comes out. Read the article link for more.

Mars scaling back M-Azing Brand

I've had the M-Azing brand before but I'm not really fond of them. I'm just not a real fan of them, and it seems like a lot of people out there feel the same way. The Mars corporation is only going to continue one version of the candy because of recent and drastic falls in sales. With all the advertising they spent on M-Azing, they said they had to do it, because they weren't turning a profit like they had hoped. My Koala Yummies are Here!

Well I've finally tasted one of my favorite childhood snacks for the first time in about 13 years. They're called Koala Yummies and I made a post about them early this year. I got them from a place called PierMall.com through Amazon.com. They come in a 10oz box with ten small packages within the box. There are about 13 little koalas filled with chocolate (or the flavor of your choice) so it's not a bad deal. I ordered two boxes. Are they as good as I remembered? You bet. I got them yesterday and I only have three packages left in my fisrt box (although I did give away one). So if you remember these, you have a place where you can find them. If you've never heard of them and just want to give them a try, go for it. They are not for everybody though. A lot of my friends have tasted them and are crazy about them, some others are not to fond of them.

"EULESS -- A chocolate addict got busted.

A shoplifter was detained by a convenience store employee after snatching a pack of chocolate doughnuts and a pack of chocolate cupcakes from a Shell Food Mart on Monday.

The sugary case happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. at the convenience store in the 500 block of West Euless Boulevard.

Fall Edition of Grandma's cookies

I just recently stopped at my dorm's vending machine and because of the very poor selection, i decided to try the Fall Fudge Chip Edition of the Grandma's cookie brand. I'm not a HUGE fan of the brand but every now and then I do have a taste for them. To my surprise, this limited edition was pretty good. It's pretty simple. It's a fudge cookie with orange chunks of M & M like candies in it (I say M&M like because they look like M&M's but I'm not sure if they are). It's a great snack and it's exactly what I needed for an evening snack. I'm not sure where else you can find them seeing as I saw them for the first time in my dorm's vending machine. But check your local stores, 7 Eleven's, etc and you may come across them.

Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake

Well yesterday I headed to Branes and Nobles because I had to buy a book for class. Going to the deli inside is always a regular when I go there although I havn't been there in awhile. When I go I usually get the triple chocolate chunk cookie which is one of the most delicious cookies I have ever eaten. Well this time, I was going to get my usual cookie, and this caramel chocolate cheesecake caught my eye. I had to get it and it tastes just lke cheesecake of course, but the chocolate and caramel are a great addition. If you ever go to Barnes and Noble's, be sure to check out the deli to see if they have it. You won't be sad.

Ivory Coast workers say no more!! They go on strike

Well this might not be good for the chooclate industry in the short term. Workers in the Ivory Coast have gone on strike protesting low retail prices and high import taxes. This could affect the whole global industry of chocolate seeing as the Ivory Coast is the world's top grower and producer of cocoa beans so you can see the effect it could have. I love my chocolate but I can see where they are coming from. Sooner or later people have to stand up for their rights and if the working conditions aren't fair then do what you have to do. I'm going to do some more research on workers around the world who harvest the cocoa beans. I recall watching a documentary awhile back on how workers around the world were not working in favorable working conditions. Click the link below for more info. Hopefully it gets resolved soon.

Hershey's Buys Dagoba

Hershey's continues to expand its growing empire as it announced that it had bought the organic sweets company Dagoba based in Ashland Oregon. The company was started in 2001 and has been growing ever since winning numerous awards for its unique products. It's understandable that Hershey's was interested. Hershey's White Chocolate Confetti

Now I had to look twice when I saw this sitting in the CVS store because I had never seen this version of the white chocolate with cookies. I never even heard of them existing so like I said I was surprised. I'm not a huge fan of the cookies n' cream brand, but I decided to try this new version with the colored cookies. It's nothing to brag about. I can see why it is a limited edition and why this was the first time I've seen it. It taste just about the same as the original so I don't know what the color of the cookies does but make the candy bar look different. So overall it's an alright candy bar and if you're a fan of white chocolate and the cookies n' cream, you might want to just give it a try. You might have some trouble finding it because I got the last one at the CVS and I have yet to see them somehwere else. On a side note, I'm sorry I couldn't get a better picture. I'm a broke college student with no money so I can't affrod a good digital camera yet. Waitin on my job!! But the price at CVS was $1.29. Overall I give it a 7.

Mrs. Field's chocolate chip cookies

Mrs. Field's is one of my favorite brands when it comes to cookies and brownies. You can usually find one of the stores in a big mall but if not you can also find them in convience stores and super markets. The packaging for cookies ranges from 4-20. I'm not sure aobut the 20 but I know it's around that number. Usually the bigger packages can be found at Sam's Club. To me there is a slight difference in buying the cookies from packages in stores than buying from the stores in the mall. They both taste good, but in my opinion the cookies in the packages taste slightly better especially if you put them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. A glass of milk with them isn't so bad either. The milk chocolate chip cookies are my favorite, but there are variation just like every other cookie brand out there.

New White Chocolate M & M's

Hmmm. It seems that white chocolate is all the rave these days. And I just made a post talking about how many companies are coming with variations with their chocolate. Well Mars has just jumped in and they have released the first ever white chocolate M & M's as part of the July 7th release of Disney's new movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". I'm a little late but they released them on May 2nd and of course it's for a limited time. Chips Ahoy White Fudge Chunky Cookies

I've long been a fan of the Chips Ahoy line. It's not my favorite line of cookies but it ranks up there. The original cookies have always been my choice but I recently came across the white fudge version of them. Nabisco seems to be another company that is following the line of others in the fact that they are coming out with many versions or variations of the original products. It's amazing at how much things have changed in over 50 years. Before, there was only one version of a candy bar or other product. Now it seems there is a limited edition for candy bars, cookies, and other foods every month. But back to the cookies. I decided that I should try them since I do like white chocolate and they taste pretty good. Of course like the name implies, they are fudge chunks. The white chunks are also mixed with regular chocolate chunks which is not a bad thing. There is a slight taste difference from the original chocolate chunks but barely. If you closed your eyes and were handed one of each, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. They cost me $3.29 with tax at Farmer Jack's (a Michigan store) so I'm not sure how much the price varies at other stores. Overall 8/10.

Hershey's Sticks

Well I'm back just as I promised. With a nice tan I might add. 90 degrees everyday down there in Florida. Our team didn't dot oo well but I still enjoyed it. School is officially over for me and next year is my senior year of college. Thank you Lord lol. Now back to business. I recently saw a new product at 7 Eleven by Hershey's. They call them Hershey Sticks and they are low calorie treats because there isn't as much chocolate in them as much as other Hershey products. Hmm low calorie you're thinking they don't taste good right? Wrong. They are tasty. Theyre about 4-5 inches long and about a half inch wide. But the main purpose of these seems to be for those who want chocolate but don't want to overdo it if they're on a diet or something like that. They're pretty easy to find but they are a little too expensive for my taste. I bought mine for just a little over three dollars. Overall I give them an 8.

Short Break

Okay for the next 5 or 6 days, I will not be able to post regularly like I want to. I'll be lucky if I even get to post once. School is over, but the golf season is not and I'm headed with my team for the last tournament of the year (a championship) in Florida so wish me luck. I will hopefully be back posting by Tuesday and at the latest Thursday. Sorry but I do not have the luxory of having multiple posters or people willing to write reviews and articles for the site yet. The Sweetest Blogs

I'm fairly new to the blogging community seeing as I only really started in January but due to school really didn't have the time to write like I wanted to but now that school is out, I have plenty of time. But ever since I've came back, I've had the privilege of reading other blogs in my same category which are sweets and chocolate. Not everyone loves sweets and chocolate, but A LOT of people do. I'd like to give you my list of best candy/chocolate/sweets blogs out there.

Among the first ones that I checked out is CandyAddict which is linked here on my blog. If you're a real candy addict as the title implies, you need to check this out. Ever wonder if that candy you saw in the store tastes good? More often than not, you can do a search on the site and look for a review of it to help your decision. The site is not limited to reviews however. News related to the world of candy can often be found here. The posts are also updated daily so each day you always have something to read about. Very recently, they have added more writers to the staff, so expect even more content from the site.

The next site, Candyblog is another good place for candy reviews and news. The layout of the site is great and it lets you know right away that candy is the main focus. Like the Candy Addict above, the site is updated frequently (daily) and contests such as the one running right now keeps it fresh. The photography is excellent so when a certain candy is reviewed, you can get a real feel of what it looks like. This is one of my favorite things about reading the reviews. Another thing I like about the reviews is that at the end, you get an overall consesus of the product such as price, a place you could purchase it, size, calories, and a rating.

And last but not least is JunkFoodBlog which needs no desciption of what it is about. The site is not limited to candy and chocolate, but also, chips and pop (for everyone out there, I'm from the Midwest...we say pop not soda). Just as the other sites, it is updated pretty frequently and gives you a good feel of what a product will taste like if you're thinking about trying it. I'm amazed that is is run by blogger considering the design and whatnot. There is even a junkfood auction by the site at ebay which you can click on at the bottom of the site.

So overall, these are the three sites that I feel are the best at blogging about sweets,candy, chocolate, and junk food. There are not as many blogs out there about these topics as much as say making money, finances, gadgets, and whatnot so it's always good to find top sites in an area I'm interested in and love. That's one main reason I decided to start my own blog about chocolate. I love it and I couldn't really find any blogs (plenty of sites about chocolate ala chocolate.com) about chocolate that focused primarily on it. So one day, maybe you will see me up there among the best but for now, I'm going to keep enjoying what I'm doing now and see where it takes me.

I came across this webiste today, foodisart.com, and found a section in which you can buy popular games such as chess, checkers, jenga, etc. only they are made of chocolate. All the pieces, the boards and whatnot are made of chocolate. You can order them online from their website. They even have a chutes and ladders style game made of chocolate. My only question is, how long will someone play before they eat the game? lol. Don't have me play one of these games and my opponent says "I'll be right back. The Chocolate Fountain

Ahh the chocolate fountain. So popular today that you can find it at many special events such as weddings, banquets, and parties. What makes it so popular? Hmm I don't know. Maybe it's the fact that you can dip practically any food into the fountain, and you've got yourself a nice chocolate treat. Now although I said practically any food, it depends on where you're at and who you're dealing with. Typically you only dip small fruits and marshmallows in but I've seen people dip almost anything on their plate and some have even been told that they can't come back because of how often they've gone to use the thing (umm not me ;) ) You can't beat that right? So where can you find these things? Well for starters, if you're just looking for a small one, I've seen them at Rite Aid's, Eckerd's, and Walgreen's for about 30 dollars. Most of the time however, people are looking for bigger ones like you find at weddings. Because of this most people order them online or from a local place who sells them. If you're looking for places online to buy a chocolate fountain, places such as thechocolateguy and Sephra. Both of which I have heard positive reports about.

Looks like my opinion of the Oreo Chocolate bar may be different to others. I'm sorry but it really did taste like an Oreo cookie to me. Not exactly but you get my drift. A writer from taquitos.net says: "Taste: This thin candy bar had a 3x10 grid of squares on top, with a single Oreo logo sprawled across many of the squares near the middle. Inside there was a very thin white creme layer, and a thicker crunchy cookie layer below it. The whole thing was coated in a darkish chocolate. The bar tasted OK overall, but it didn't taste anything like an Oreo cookie.

Oreo Chcolate Candy Bar

Well it seems as though everybody is coming out with a chocolate bar these days. I had the pleasure of trying the Oreo candy bar a week ago. I'm not sure how long it has been out as I saw it for the first time when I tried it. Does it taste like the classic oreo cookies? Actually it does. Bascially, it's an Oreo cookie shaped in a flat rectangle covered in chocolate. You can't go wrong with that. I got it at a local BP gas station so you may be able to find them there. 65 cemts and voerall 8/10.

Kit Kat....mint??

The past two years of seen the special edition Kit kat white chooclate (a thing which every cnady company seems to be doing), but yesterday while on a late night run to 7-11 with my buddies, I saw for the very first time Kit Kat mint. Call me slow for not knowing that these have been out for some time, but of course I had to get one and try it. I've never really been a fan of mint flavored products. Not that I don't like them, I'm just not crazy about them. But I was really pleased with the mint flavored Kit Kat. Nothing outstanding, but not something I wouldn't recommend trying. Overall 7.5/10.

New series

Chocolate Moose Tracks Ice Cream

This is my favorite ice cream flavor by far. Besides the plain chocolate of course lol. But it contains small peanut butter cups, chunks of fudge (some large if you get a lucky carton), and of course the ice cream. Originally the peanut butter cups and fudge only came with vanilla ice cream but about a year ago, the chocolate version came out. Most of the major ice cream companies make it (Melody Farms is my personal fav) so if you like ice cream you have got to try it out. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Overall 9/10.

I was just recently browsing some past posts from CandyAddict. It's a great site and although this site is dedicated to the chocolate lovers out there, what's wrong with candy in general? lol. Little Debbie Double Chocolate Rolls

Little Debbie has always been a favorite product of mine. However just this year I discovered the double chocolate rolls. If you're familiar with Little Debbie, you know probably know about the swiss cake rolls. Well the double chocolate rolls are just like that only you guessed it, filled with chocolate. They're excellent although I hate it when I get a box where they're somewhat melted. But I still eat them anyways. Apparently pictures of these things are hard to come by but I will try to take a picture when I get the chance. Try them. Overall 9/10.

Garfield Chocobites

Well my school keeps adding random candy products to the vending machines every week although these have been in there for some time. I just was never interested in trying them. But it's amazing what you'll try when you're a hungry college student starving for a snack :). So how are they? They're not bad, but they're not great either. To put it simply, they are just peanut M & M's but a cheaper version. They don't taste as good and they don't have the trademark "m". But like I said they're not bad. I give them a 6/10.

Another good Hershey's product

I've talked about Hershey's once in this blog (see the Reese's post) and of course they have another product that I like. Burger King seems to be the only place I have found them. I've checked regular grocery stores and even Sam's Club and I havn't found them. Luckily, there is a Burger King on my college campus so I can get them basically whenever I want. What am I talking about? Why Hershey Sundae Pies of course. Basically a chocolate crust, with a layer of ice cream like chocolate, mixed with whipped cream, topped of with chocolate chips and more chocolate and whipped cream. Very good. Although all of this sweetness may be too much so I've heard form some of my friends. Even just one slice. I could agree. It definitely is loaded with sugar even though there is no nutrition label telling you so. You can just taste it. Tasty as it may be, I wouldn't recommend eating one everyday. And I definitely wouldn't recommend it as the first thing you eat in your day. I've elarned this the hard way a couple of times. And I've elarned not to eat two at a time. So overall I give it an 8 just because everybody might not like allll the sugar that is loaded with it.

The Barnes and Noble's cookie

I'm sure most of you have a Barnes and Noble somewhere around your area and after you've browsed around looking at the books and perhaps the music, why not make your way to the cafe' part of the store and get one of their chocolate chip cookies. Heck why not get two? Delicious I tell you!! With a total width of about 5- 51/2 inches, it's more than enough to satisfy your chocolate fix. And as I stated before, why not get two if you really need that fix. I wish I had a picture, but next time I get one I will be sure to take one and post it here. Overall I give the cookies 9/10. The chocolate brownies are also delicious, but that's another story :).

I don't know how old or young some of you are but do you remember these? They're called Koala Yummies or Koala March nowadays and back when I was around 5 or 6, I would ALWAYS eat them as a snack. I've always wondered where they went, and I found that you can get them from a few places online. They used to sell them in markets but it seems that online is the only way to buy them. When I found a place to buy them, please believe I bought a box! They are great so get a box if you can and you will be hooked. Amazon is a good place as well as www.lotteusainc.com.

Reese's is my favorite candy by far in terms of main market candy (Milky Way, Snickers, Kit Kat, etc.). I would like to think that Hershey's thinks there are a lot of people out there like me because they have come out with a wide array of Reese's products. Let's go down the line shall we?

whoa...thats a lotta Reese's. To me it's pretty clear that Reese's is Hershey's most successful product IMO. Even more so than original Hershey bars and whatnot. Now some products that I listed up there were only available for a limited time and you probably won't be able to find them anymore (Reese's dark chocolate) but most of them are still available. I'm a sucker for the original but don't get me near a large bag of Reese's bites because I will most likely finish it in one sitting. The Reese's Sticks are a close third. What new Reese's will they come up with next? A Reese's drink? I'd like to taste that....and oh yeah I forgot to mention Reese's CEREAL!?lol

Lindt Chocolates

This company makes some of the best chocolate around. They have many variations of their products ranging from the classic chocolate bars to chocolate truffles with a liquid center. The truffle balls with the liquid center are my favorite. It seems to be rather hard to find these chocolates unless you go to a Lindt store in a mall or a national food place. I find that the most accesible place to get them is at Border's Books and Music. Every Border's that I have been to has had them and you can usually find them right at the checkout counters. You're likely to find a flavor you like. They have milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and amaretto. There is a limited edition that I've only seen during the Christmas holiday with milk chocolate with a white chocolate center. Very delicious. Get them before they take them away. In review:

Chocolate can cut heart disease?

This is according to the University Hospital in Zurich. I've heard of this before plenty of times. I just wonder how true it is. For one I eat chocolate every single day although I don't overload (every now and then I'll go crazy) but what they are saying is only eating a couple squares of chocolate would do the trick.
